Dear Friends,

Welcome! to what we hope will be a regular newsletter for our friends. This is a new Web-based program we're testing here with this issue. Please let us know what you think of it. Your input is very important. If you like it, pass it on; if you don't, tell us why and we'll fix it!

We have put a lot of names on this mailing list, all our previous guests, all our colleagues on CBBHosts, and many other friends and family. If you don't want to receive this newsletter, please don't be shy about opting out. There's an Unsubscribe link at the very bottom, and it will give us something else to test! If you want someone else to receive it, please forward it to them!

We sincerely hope you all had a great holiday season, and are already well into a healthy and happy 2003. Drop us a line, let us know what's new with you. We'd love to hear from you!

Your friends,
Rog & Jim

  • The Producers is (are?) coming

While some New Yorkers are prepared to to sell their first born to get their hands on a pair of tickets to see The Producers on Broadway, all you need to do is book a visit to TDBAB.

Its success on the Great White Way is unprecedented. The Producers took home 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Original Score, making it the biggest winner in Broadway history.

The Producers opens in Toronto on November 3. The first few weeks are completely sold out for subscribers of the theatre, but we should be able to get VIP House Seat tickets for our guests from January 2004, onwards.

If you would like to catch this production, please book now, and we'll order tickets as soon as they are made available to us; we won't process any charges for room or tickets until we can confirm both, but we'll hold your room space till we do.

As part of our committment to Extend Your Experince, we are proud to announce another new feature at TDBAB since The Move: our cooperative venture with SHAPE Health and Wellness centre, just steps from our door. Now we can provide comprehensive care to our guests through a diverse range of specialized services offered by SHAPE's many wellness care professionals.

SHAPE, with its upscale, boutique atmosphere and complete dedication to client satisfaction, is a perfect match with Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast's philosophy and style. This unique and cooperative relationship allows us to offer continuity of care and pampering. Select a package in advance of your visit and we'll take care of everything else.

All packages start with a personal visit by a SHAPE trainer, meeting you in your room for a private, personalized enhanced stretching routine before escorting you for a short walk or jog to SHAPE's state- of-the-art facilities.

Of course, we had to modify our groaning-board breakfast menu for SHAPE clients. Still delicious, filling and beautifully presented ... just a trifle healthier!

    Your Globe-trotting Hosts

It's not always easy to keep up on all the places our Guests come from, but we try! The weekend before our move, we took Rog's three sons, and Jim's eldest and his wife, to Los Angeles for a jam-packed long weekend of Universal Studios, Disneyland, Hollywood and more. We stayed at a wonderfully exotic B&B there, in a fantastic location, The Secret Garden. Host Raymond is an attraction in himself!

In November, we were off to Barcelona, the home of Gaudi, Joan Miro, and free-thinkers of all times. What a wonderfully exciting city, modern, architecturally inspiring, and friendly. The trip ended with a few days in Paris, and a hosted day-trip to the Champagne Region. Rog in Heaven.

In April, we're off to Vancouver with Young Keith to the first Convention of our Canada Bed and Breakfast Hosts on-line forum, and then on to Germany.

No trip to Paris is or could be complete without ... some Limoges, right? And this trip, we did pick up a set of Constance by Bernardeau, probably our all-time favourite now, and brought it home in our carryon.

For Christmas, Rog picked out two place settings from William Ashley, here in Toronto, for Jim. Jim found out about it, called Ashley's and ordered one more place setting for Rog without knowing what the pattern even was. It was Lenox' Royal Arcade, a beautifully delicate robin's egg blue with raised gold trim.

Now you can stay two more days without fear of a repeated place setting!

    Our New Home!
October 19 - 21. Four days that should have been a TV Special. Designer Ida, her team of carpenters, a landscaper, three electricians, locksmith, Rog's three sons and us. A complete makeover, and guests arriving on the 22nd! But absolutely worth every moment, strain and penny.

Come discover the treasures of our new neighbourhood, the trendy Bloor / Yorkville shopping district: a dozen new restaurants within a block or two, great new Whole Foods grocery store in Hazleton Lanes, the famous flower stalls of Avenue Road ... so much to discover.

It's just a short walk up the hill to Casa Loma and Spadina House, or down the street to the sprawling Gothic-tinged campus of the University of Toronto and Queen's Park, Ontario's Parliament buildings. The Museum Triumvirate (Royal Ontario, Gardiner Ceramic and Bata Shoe) are also just a stroll from our door.

The subway is 5 minutes' walk away, and from there, the entire city, both downtown and up, are just minutes away. It's the perfect location! Come and see for yourself!
