Farewell,
Terrace House Bed and Breakfast
For four years of friendship and shared evenings of Champagne and Lemon Drops,
we are grateful. But life moves on, and Suzanne and Pierre are leaving
Terrace House Bed and Breakfast of Toronto for newer challenges,
and we will miss them sorely.
For four years, the only two top quality downtown Toronto bed and breakfast properties that Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast had the confidence to recommend ("the only place I'd let my mother sleep," Jim would say) were Robin's Nest and Terrace House. Robin's Nest closed in 2004, and now we say adieu to Le Terrace.
Suzanne and Pierre bought Terrace House in 1995 as a "going concern" - but certainly not going in the direction that Suzanne had in mind for it. The location of Terrace House (named for Austin Terrace, the street on which it is located) was nigh perfect, just a short stroll to Casa Loma, and even closer to the bus service of Bathurst Street. The Toronto neighbourhood was decidedly upscale, but the existing B&B here was not.
Suzanne and Pierre invested ten years of loving attention and many thousands of dollars into upgrades for Terrace House Bed and Breakfast, from the landscaping to paving, from basement to roof, a new bathroom carved from a closet clearly too large for overnight guests, a new al fresco dining area, improved owners' suite on the lower level, and, just last year, a complete makeover by renowned Toronto interior designer, Ida Cristello.
Suzanne has also been a driving force in FOBBA (Federation of Ontario Bed and Breakfast Accommodation), serving for several years as District Representative for Toronto and Area bed and breakfasts and is well known in the industry as an astute professional. But it is her guests, particularly her European clients, who will miss her most, for she is a consummate host, and excellent cook.
We join your many friends and colleagues in wishing you both a wonderful new adventure, and a quick return to Terrace House Bed and Breakfast, Toronto.
